As you navigate the streets nowadays, it’s crucial to be mindful of your surroundings, what you’re carrying, and who’s around you. Unfortunately, the streets are rife with individuals masquerading as harmless travellers or passersby positioned themselves in every street corner.

After encountering several of these thugs in various situations, I’ve chosen to share with you the three most common and sophisticated ways scammers use to steal your money. So, without further delay, let’s delve into the topic.

1. Bundle-drop Technique.

This tactic, which typically involves at least three thugs, has been in use for some time, yet many people tend to overlook it, often due to circumstances like poverty.

Allow me to illustrate. Picture this: you’re strolling along a street, such as River Road or Luthuli Avenue. Thugs spot you, identify what they aim to steal from you, and make their move.

As you walk, one of them will come uncomfortably close to you, slightly ahead, and then “accidentally” drop a bundle of money from his pocket.

Your eyes widen at the sight of the money, envisioning a way out of financial hardship. Your adrenaline surges as you move to pick up the cash. But just as you’re about to grab it, someone else swoops in and snatches it. They then propose to split the money privately, luring you away.

Beware! Once you follow them, you’ll find yourself ambushed by three or more thugs, leaving you robbed and possibly injured. When walking in town, steer clear of such individuals!

2. Sure Odds Scam

Gambling has been a part of society for ages, and with technological advancements, it has become even more accessible to all ages.

Online scammers know that many people often aspire to become wealthy by winning a lottery or something similar. So what do they do? They exploit this opportunity by offering what they claim to be guaranteed wins.

They create Facebook pages, Telegram groups, and WhatsApp chats where they advertise “sure odds.” These often involve supposed fixed matches, enticing you to pay for their tips with promises of enormous returns.

Many fall victim to this scheme, driven by the desire for quick riches. However, it’s crucial to read between the lines. Why would someone charging for tips promise such high returns? Why not offer them for free?

3. Fuliza Limit Fraud

In today’s online landscape, scammers abound on platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Telegram, offering to increase your Fuliza limit.

Let me tell you a harsh truth: no one but the service provider, such as Safaricom, can legitimately raise your Fuliza limit. Anyone claiming otherwise is a fraudster.

They aim to phish your details and drain your M-Pesa account. Beware of these individuals to avoid falling victim to their deceitful tactics.

What should you do when you encounter a Nairobi thug?

If you are in danger, call for help. If someone tries to intimidate you, speak up and walk away. When walking around, avoid displaying expensive items in public as it can attract thieves.

It’s important to be content with what you have. Many people fall prey to scams because of their greed and desire to get rich quickly.
