Martha Karua Slams DCI Over False Protest Photos, Demands Public Apology
Kenyan politician Martha Karua demands an apology from DCI for publishing false protest photos and misleading Kenyans.
Martha Karua, the chairperson of the Narc Kenya Party and a member of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance, has requested an apology from the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after they were exposed for using deliberately misleading images.
According to multiple fact-checks, the photographs of violence that were alleged to be from Azimio’s protest were obtained from previous events and other countries.
Karua questioned the security agency’s motivation, alleging that the intention was to disrupt Raila Odinga’s faction’s protests.

She noted that the DCI can no longer be trusted to police or investigate fairly after the misleading photos debacle was exposed by the media.
Karua also praised the police officers who showed restraint during the demonstration and called out their colleagues for using excessive force.

DCI has ordered the individuals in the captured fake photos to avail themselves for questioning, and it alleges that a policeman lost a gun loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm calibre after being attacked by rowdy youth. The DCI and NPS are yet to comment on the matter.
