Kipsitet Primary School in Kericho County is counting losses after a massive eucalyptus tree fell on one of its classrooms, injuring several pupils. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, has left the school in a state of shock and uncertainty.
The heavy rainfall that had been experienced in Belgut sub-county caused the tree to fall, breaking through the classroom roof and hitting the pupils who were taking shelter from the rain.
Although there were no fatalities, several students were injured, with two of them being referred to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Parents and guardians of the affected pupils have expressed their concern and frustration, calling on the school management to take preventative measures to ensure that such a tragedy does not occur in the future. Some have called for the removal of all mature trees within the school compound to avert a similar disaster.
The school management, however, has assured parents and guardians that they will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of their students.
They have promised to clear all mature trees around the classrooms and conduct regular maintenance of all structures within the school compound to prevent accidents and injuries.
The local authorities have also stepped in to offer support to the school and the affected pupils. Area MCA Hon Peter Kemoi Diplo visited the school to assess the situation and offer his support.
He has promised to work with the Office of MP Belgut to ensure that the damaged roofing is replaced quickly to allow the learners to continue with their studies.
The tree accident has highlighted the need for regular maintenance and inspection of trees and other structures within school compounds. It has also emphasized the importance of having emergency response plans in place to handle such situations.
As the community comes together to support the affected pupils and the school, it is hoped that the incident will serve as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that all schools are safe and secure learning environments for all students.
